Ansel Adams

Ansel Adams was born in 1902 to Charles Hitchcock Adams. Spending much of his early childhood among sand dunes in a relatively rich setting due to a wealthy grandfather, Adams was surrounded in a lot of light and dark contrast at an early age. Unfortunately, his childhood was marred in tragedies involving a broke nose, his family suffering financially, and a general emotional disconnection from his parents. He had trouble fitting in at school as a result of this, and possessed a certain intensity in his character. He taught himself to play the piano at the age of twelve, and his love for music replaced normal schooling for him. He began taking photographs in 1927, and was married in 1928. Albert M. Bender, a patron of arts, took the photographer under his wing and made sure his photos were published. The 1930s saw him rapidly rise to fame, although his financial problems did not disappear with his popularity. He was particularly known for his technical mastery of the art of photography, more so than anyone at his time. He worked tirelessly taking photos of nature, of which he was actively involved in defending as an environmentalist.Adams is remembered as the last and arguably greatest artist of his kind as a 19th century landscape photographer. He died in 1984.

Found Faces Post 2: Story

My name is Gregory, and I once was a High School student. I came from a rich family, and as a result of this, unfortunately fell into the trap of having a superiority complex. My skill as a Football Quarterback only reinforced my lofty perception of myself; yes, I thought I was too cool for school. And so, one day, I had the brilliant idea to skip school. "No one will care," I thought to myself. "It's only one day."

One day quickly turned into several days, predictably enough. I was taking easy classes, so I knew I'd be able to simply make up for the days I had missed. Most of my teachers adored me, and I figured they wouldn't care too much about my random lack of appearances in classes, and, for the most part, I was right; however, there was one exception that proved to be my downfall: Mrs. Grotto.

Mrs. Grotto was evil incarnate. Not that what I was doing was necessarily right anyway, but she was far too extreme, at first refusing ever to give me any work, and constantly warning me not to cross her, or I would pay dearly. I thought she was crazy; did she not realize how incredible I was?

So, naturally, I used my influence and wealth to pull a few strings within the school system in order to get her fired. I payed off a few of the staff members and lied about things she was saying and doing; just general all around corruption mixed in with a healthy dose of deception. And I, as expected, was successful.

As she was leaving on her last day after packing up, I bumped into her in the halls.

"Oh, hi Mrs. Grotto," I said smugly, my expression likely flaunting my victory over her.

"I warned you, Gregory," she responded, unblinkingly. "I said you would pay."

She suddenly shot a beam of energy from her hand which hit me scare in the chest, knocking me on my back. First, I started glowing purple; then, all of a sudden, my hands and arms began dissolving into the air. I tried to yell, but I couldn't.

"Couldn't stay at school, huh?" she said as she began to walk away. "Well, now you'll have no choice."

All went blank.

When I awoke, I found that I had become one with the school building, my face being located in the commons area. Now, I am the school, the one thing I kept trying to skip out on. Mrs. Grotto was right; I have indeed payed dearly, and will likely stay here until the day the building is torn down. I suppose it isn't all bad, though; I can close and open doors, set the fire alarm off, raise and lower the temperatures, and talk through the intercom at will. Pulling pranks on the students through these methods is simply the best thing I can do with my time these days One day, I will find my way out of here, and vengeance shall be mine; until then, however, I will make the best of my plight.

Found Panoramic

I think this is simply gorgeous scenery, with an awesome contrast with lighting.

I like how half of the photo is focused on the greener side of the falls, and half of the picture is devoted to the falls itself.

Favorite Photo Post

A tree in Socotra. I like the lack of effects, and this tree is just insane, the way the branches are like vines and such. Also, there aren't any other trees like it in the background; it stands alone as just a freaky, yet cool tree. It's just visually appealing to me.
